History of Belfim.com
Belfim.com was founded by Woodring Saint Preux in January 2004. While
running an ad campaign for Haitian filmmaker Wilkenson Bruna via Fouye.com for
his newly released movie Wind Of Desire, Woodring started to develop a slight
curiosity about Haitian movies. Woodring began to notice that, although there
were a few Haitian websites selling Haitian movies online, there was
actually no website out there that focused primarily on the Haitian movie stars
and Haitian movie information.
Frustrated by the lack of information about Haitian actors
and movies, Woodring came up with the idea of creating such a website but he had
a lot of questions. Wilkenson introduced Woodring to the concept of a
centralized movie database system famous in Hollywood called IMDB (The Internet
Movie Database).
Coupled with his love for the simple design of Yahoo!
Movies, Woodring began Belfim.com to give the Haitian movie industry a web
portal that would be a central directory for Haitian movie related resources,
something in the caliber of IMDB, with the looks of Yahoo Movies, but for
Haitians.
Before putting the project in motion, Woodring had to first understand the
concept of filmmaking inside out. Filmmaker Wilkenson Bruna offered his
time and expertise and Haitian filmmaker and pioneer Raynald Delerme offered his
full cooperation, his assistance, even a free copy of all his movies in a leap
of faith not knowing exactly what Woodring had in mind for the movie industry.
The few hours they invested in answering questions coupled with the dedication
that Woodring had became what is known today as "Mond La" the online world for
Haitian cinema, spreading Haitian movie information around the world.
Over the years, Belfim.com grew exponentially in terms of Haitian actors, Haitian movies, and the visitor demand. By it's fourth year, January, 2008, Belfim.com's traffic reached over 4 million hits per month and growing. The
Haitian movie industry has fallen in love with Belfim.com and for a good reason
too.
Woodring plans to continue and carry out his vision for the Haitian
movie industry by adding more and more Haitian movie resources to Belfim.com
over the coming years.
