Homage A Languichatte Debordus

Wednesday May 07, 2008 05:31 PM

When Americans were watching the Jeffersons, Haitian people were watching Languichatte Au 20eme Siecle.

Watch this Belfim exclusive video: Homage a Languichatte Debordus, Part 1

Yes...

Languichatte Debordus was our Georges Jefferson..

Theodore Beaubrun is a name that is not mention often these days but if you are over the age of 35 and you spent your childhood in Haiti, I am sure you know who Languichatte Debordus is.

When I was a kid, I would not miss Languichatte on Wednesdays and Friday nights on Television National D'Haiti. "Languichatte Au XXieme Siecle" and "La Vi Nan Bouk" were the only Haitian Creole TV sitcoms back in the days. They were funny.

Azibe, dlo cho!

Melanie cafe!

Georges & Baba Company, the two "con men" in the show

Where is Azibe?

Where is Melanie?

What happened to Mantoute?

Where is Lolotte?

Are their still alive?

Are they still doing comedy?

Where are their now?

Can Banabe still act?

Watch this video and find out: Homage a Languichatte Debordus, Part 1

Do you know how he got the stage name Languichatte?

I will tell you today because I was there last year at the Parc Historique De La Canne A Sucre when there where commemoration him; this is where I heard it for the first time...

Theodore Beaubrun was looking for a great stage name when a when the next door neighbor's "Geran Lakou" came over and starting and said"

"Vwazin na mande si nou pa gen fey 'Lang Chat' poul li fe yon ti te"

'lang chat' a common leaf in Haiti became Languichatte Debordus, the best Haitain comedian of all time.

Video Link: Watch the video clips from the evening in March 2007 at the Park Historique De La Canne A Sucre, Homage a Languichatte Debordus, Part 1.

Here was my biggest moment of the evening for me:

Raynald Delerme, Baba in Languichatte Au XXeme SiecleI was sitting in the crowd watching a video of the life of Theodore Beaubrun. There were many clips of his sitcom playing on the big screen, clips I had not seen in more then 25 years.

Suddenly it occurred to me...

"Baba" was sitting right next to me...

"Baba" is my friend... Raynald Delerme... The guy who invited me to the event...

I started staring at him.  He looked at me for a good 30 seconds and said: "Woody, are you OK?"

"I used to see you on TV, " I replied in disbelief, "You're my friend now... I am sitting right next to you!"

Sometimes we don't realize how fortunate we are and how honored we should be when we meet a childhood hero.  Growing in Hinche Haiti in the 70's, I never expected to meet the people I only saw on a Black and white television at the neighbor's house, let along call them my friends.

I never met Languichatte. He was... and he always will be... my George Jefferson!

For all of you who were not there that night, there will more videos available soon, you will enjoy them.

African Movie Premiere In The Haitian Community

Tuesday May 06, 2008 12:33 PM

Speaking of African Movies... we have learned that there was an African Movie Premiere in the Haitiann community in Miami. it happened a few weeks ago

Is that true?

Yes it is...

One eye witness told belfim.com that "Gen moun ki endispoze" le yo we yon akte Africain ki te vini.

Ki akte sa?  si gen moun ki te la... Ban-m zen an byen... Please!

This African Movie business is creating a lot of problem in the Haitian movie market.  Some Haitian filmmakers are not happy about it.  They claim the distributors who bring African movies to the Haitian market are destroying the Haitian movie industry.

I try my best to stay out of it... after all I don't make a dime from the sale of african movies... but I do have a question for you:

Why do Haitians watch African movies?

  • Is it the price?
  • Is it the quality?
  • or is it the story?

There's gotta be a reason.  We need to find that reason and give them a better drug... I mean... movie!

I have another question:

What if....? no... I'll ask you later!

The Life Of Dieudonne Larose, New Movie Announced

Saturday May 03, 2008 01:16 PM

Carine Delerme of Cinevision has just closed the deal on a new movie project about the life of Dieudonne Larose.

This is a joint venture between Cinevision and HSTV Production.  The real life story of Haitian superstar Dieudone Larose will be told in moving pictures.  The film will be directed by Haitian filmmaker Godnel Latus aka Baby Love.

The movie is code named: "Mwen Kwè, La Vie De Dieudone Larose"  (I believe, The Life Of Dieudonne Larose)

This is another challenge for baby love because Dieudonne Larose is not just anybody.  The man has quite a history.

His career spanned across some of the most famous Haitian music bands including but not limited to:

  • Shoogar Combo
  • D.P. Express,
  • Dixie Band,
  • Meridional Des Cayes
  • Missile 727
  • Missile 747

Success is measured by many different things in life. In a country where it is impossible to dream some people are crazy enough to break the barriers of prejudice achieve the level of "superstar".

One such person is Dieudonne Larose.

Haiti is a country whose history and traditions is deeply rooted in slavery.  because of that, praising people is still something that is not common practice. It has not been that long, since Haitian artist began to sign autographs.

99% of the Haitian artist complain about the fact that they invest their entire lives in the entertainment of a bunch of ungrateful people.

"Haitien pa bay atis li yo vale," one of them told me in an interview, "it just so happens that I had to go all the way to the ivory coast in order to receive a life time achievement award."

I have been told that this the first time ever such a project is put together.  Dieudonne Larose, Carine Delerme, And Babylove Godnel Latus have already signed their agreements, production will begin early June, 2008.

Carine Delerme was the happiest of them all.  It has always been a dream of hers to do a project with Dieudonne Larose.

She was so anxious about the kick off meeting with Larose that she asked that Belfim.com be there to cover the event.

We stood there for hours, we laughed and we shed some tears of joy as Larose began to tell his life story.

Birth Of An Assassin, Being Released In The American Market?

Wednesday April 30, 2008 12:29 PM

Tutu has just announced to Belfim that The Birth Of An Assassin may be released by an American independent film company.  He has been talking to people and he want take his film out to the world.

We have just received new production photos for the movie directed by Joan Demosthene (Tutu)

Have you seen the trailer?

Video Link: Watch The Birth Of An Assassin Movie Trailer

I have been bragging about Mora's Angels. Of course, I am a man but let's be real... Tutu ap fè fashion show pa-l wi la-a!

All the young men in this movie "dress to kill"... Make sense doesn't it?... "Dress to kill"... Kon-m fini la-a mwen pral achte yon chemiz rouj!

Paulson Azemar, from Lover to Hitman!

Haitian actor Paulson Azemar who made his movie debut as a loverboy in the movie "Oasis" is one of the Hit man in The Birth Of An Assassin.

Hudson Accius, From Joker to Hitman.

You probably recall Haitian actor Hudson Accius, the funny guy with the heavy "O Cap" Creole accent who made people laugh in the movie "L'Amour Et L'Amitie," well he is not funny and he is not laughing now.  He is "Machete" a bad ass Haitian mafia hit man who uses his machete instead of a gun to do his dirty work.

I hear that Kirby Leveille is in the movie, more info coming soon.

The Birth Of An Assassin is going all out!

Lately Tutu has been getting a lot of praise from other people within the Haitian movie industry. They are all very impressed by the movie trailer.

Remember a few days ago I wrote an article in which I wrote "If it's is only sold on West Dixie Highway, If I cannot rent it at Blockbuster, then it is a Haitian Movie?"

Tutu is trying to have The Birth Of An Assassin released by an American independent film company. This is my wish for everyone filmmaker in the Haitian movie industry.

Go... Increase your 100%, this way I can get a bigger 10%!

I have two suggestions for you:

1) Do not seek the advice of anyone who has not done it yet, family, friends, and experts included. There is a saying "If your next door neighbor knew how to be rich, he would not be your next door neighbor".  Read Haitians and The Tall poppy syndrome.

2) After you do it, make sure you come back and tell everyone how you did it.

In the mean time, you can see all the pictures and trailer by visiting the links below
