La Trace Boat Cruise Premiere, Change In The Horizon

Posted: 08:05 AM ET

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseLet me tell you about the "All Star" La Trace movie cruise premiere.

I dub the evening of Friday March 14 aboard the Sea Escape's M/V Island Adventure Cruise ship  "Haitian Stars Night Out" because it was an event that I've witnessed for the first time since being an integral part of the Haitian movie industry.

Kerby Leveille may have started a new revolution in Haitian movie premieres.

Why am saying that?

See all the La Trace movie premiere pictures here and you will understand

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseKirby came up with the idea of a "before party" for his movie La Trace.  He brought in many Belliwood actors, some of whom flew in from Haiti, to attend the event.

By 7:45PM we were all aboard the Sea Escape cruise ship for an exclusive night, little did we know, this evening was going to be an evening to remember.

There was something different about the evening, it was not open to the public.  I immediately began to notice a spark amongst the guests.  They were all smiling, they were happy, it was as if they all silently agreed to have a wonderful evening together.

We are dealing with a group of people where it is believed by many that they do not get along. we are dealing with an industry, a small society within, that reflects the flaws of the larger society that encloses it.

As movie goers and consumers, we tend to believe that the Haitian movie industry is tiny and everybody knows everybody.  that's not true at all.

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseI've been to many Haitian movie premieres and I can tell you that these events allow actors to meet with other actors for the first time and to praise each other.

"What? Tonton Nord is here? where is he?"

This is what Nadege Telfort said when someone shouted "Tonton Nord!" not knowing that Johnny Fleurinord, the man behind the mask, was dying to meet her for the first time.

"Oh my God," she continued, "You're my favorite actor!  Come let's take a picture together! I have to show this to my mother."

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseRaynald Delerme Jean Gardy Bien Aime, their presence is always appreciated by everyone, actors and fans alike.

"We have no choice,"  says actor and filmmaker Mora Junior Etienne, "we owe them eternal praise and respect."

In the midst of the evening, everyone flocked around Smoye Noisy, they all wanted to take pictures with him.  It was as if they saw him for the first time.  This was happening to everyone on the ship all night long, all migrating towards one another for a photo shoot.

"My camera is full" says actress Nathalie Lalanne.  "I've never seen this before" says Filmmaker Joan Demosthene (Tutu)

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseEven Kessy, the founder and singer of Haitian Racine group Koudjay, who happened to be aboard the Sea Escape cruise ship got his 21 gun salute.

I was shocked!

This group of Haitian movie producers and actors had such a wonderful time that after a while it was not longer about the La Trace movie premiere.  Far from that, this was the La Trace family reunion.

Perhaps Kerby Leveille was not aware that, in excluding the public from the La Trace movie premiere, he was giving the actors a chance to really get to know each other but everyone who was there understood that something magical was taking place the evening of March 14 aboard the Sea Escape cruise ship.

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseCarine Delerme, the young Miami movie distributor, was speechless.  "Ou pa konprann, Woodring," she says, "This night is so special, can't you see how happy I am?"

"I'm not even watching the movie," Papa Pie said while sitting outside talking to Johnny Fleurinord  and Jean Gardy Bien Aime, "I will watch it tomorrow, I am simply enjoying this evening."

Actress Natasha Simeon won the dance contest on the boat, Actor/Director Mora Junior Etienne was in a Boogy'ing down mode,

Papa Pie was in a trance, Ricardo Lefevre invented some new dance moves that night,  Filmmaker Herold Israel was sitting at a distance trying to absorb it all.

I cannot begin to tell you what this evening meant for everyone who was there but I will tell you my opinion.

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseBeing the owner of Belfim.com, I am so happy that I spent all the thousands of hours to put this site together.  In the beginning I fell that I was trying to help a bunch of individuals.

After what I witnessed that evening, I am happy to report to you that there is a future for Haitian cinema.  A time will come when they will all get together to do something exceptional.  More events like these will make it happen much faster.

The public grand premiere happened last night, March 15, at the north Miami Performing Arts Theater.  That was itself another special evening and everyone who was not able to make the Friday night special showed up.

There were many filmmakers there: Samuel Vincent, John Harris Desinor, Leonard Maxime Francois, Valentin C. Lustra, Jean R. Galumette, just to name a few.

The word must have gotten out!

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseThere were more Haitian actors and filmmakers there that night than any other night in history (my history at least).  I will leave it up to the people who've seen the movie to give their opinion about "La Trace The Movie".  As for myself, I was happy just to be there to witness "La Trace Du Progres".

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  Take a look at the 261 pictures taken Friday evening and the 215 pictures taken at the public grand premiere on Saturday and you will know exactly what I am talking about.

Great job, Kirby, You've outdone yourself.  And thank you everyone for making this night "A Night To Remember".

La Trace Premiere Boat CruiseWhile talking to a close friend of mine who is the financing side of the Haitian movie industry and telling him about this article I am about to write, he asked me to raise this questions to all readers:

How can there be more nights like this famous Friday night that I am talking about?

The answer is simple, you the public have to support Haitian cinema, the filmmakers need to sell more DVDs so that they can continue outdo themselves by bringing you more quality, more fun, and a lot more entertainment.

You are helping when you begin to fill up these movie theaters, You are helping when you purchase DVDs, you are helping when you buy ORIGINAL Haitian movies an not the bootleg version.

This is probably the longest article I will ever write about Haitian cinema but if you are reading this last paragraph, then you didn't mind.  be sure to leave a comment as I do read them.

Congratulations Kirby, congratulations to all the people who inspire me to write this, congratulations to all the belfim fans out there who love and support the Haitian movie industry.
