Tuesday May 06, 2008Posted: 12:33 PM ET Speaking of African Movies... we have learned that there was an African Movie Premiere in the Haitiann community in Miami. it happened a few weeks ago
Is that true?
Yes it is...
One eye witness told belfim.com that "Gen moun ki endispoze" le yo we yon akte Africain ki te vini.
Ki akte sa? si gen moun ki te la... Ban-m zen an byen... Please!
This African Movie business is creating a lot of problem in the Haitian movie market. Some Haitian filmmakers are not happy about it. They claim the distributors who bring African movies to the Haitian market are destroying the Haitian movie industry.
I try my best to stay out of it... after all I don't make a dime from the sale of african movies... but I do have a question for you:
Why do Haitians watch African movies?
- Is it the price?
- Is it the quality?
- or is it the story?
There's gotta be a reason. We need to find that reason and give them a better drug... I mean... movie!
I have another question:
What if....? no... I'll ask you later!

Haitian and African movie For me it's a combination of interest. At first it 's a way to learn a different culture which is very close to our culture then some story are closer to movie where most of our Haitian movies are closer to a theater scene. For example I was watching an Haitian movie, a women was at swimming pool it was clear to every one that lady was very cautious to wet her hair because of the perm " Common make it real go to ste studio after" In reality both African and Haitian are theater scene

mwen dako ak ou Sandra . . ou met dil anko, mwen dako avek ou. pou mwen menm african movie se kankou drug ke mwen pran. yo pi cheap, good story, . mwen gade anpil movi african, depim fin etudie ou bien mwen pa pral travay se sa selman mwen fe.kom Sandra te di ou ka gade anpil nan african movie yo avec ninpot ki. menm ke se yon love story movie a ye ou pa we move bagay telman. par exemple mwen kon renmen gade acteur sa yo: ramsey, Van Vicker, Nadia, Jackie, Genevieve, Omotala, Stella, Iche, Emeka e yon ban anko e sa ki pi red se love story yo mwen renmen. ou we ke gen lanmou kap tonbe men ou pa janm we yon paket vye bagay. . men pou ki raison nou oblige van movie yo expensive konsa($15) kote african movie (2parts) ap van $8.Se sak fe mwen konn al withdraw lajan sou account mwen pou m ka al achte african movie. Le sa ou a panse ke mwen pa sipote tet mwen ou bien mwen pa konn sa ke mwen vle. . pou mwen gade yon movie haitien ak yon timoun ou bien yon granmoun fok mwen make sure ke movie pa gen anyen drol menm ke movie ta pote non yon mounm

Pouki African yo cheap African Movies are so cheap because nobody pays for them. The distributors who are selling them don't produce them and don't pay for them. They just get a copy and make thousands of copies so they can sell it for pennies. To have a Haitian movie done, a producer needs a script, a crew, bunch of actors, locations, food, lot of clothes, make up, lights, cameras etc. After that u have to put in on dvd Q-pac so these so-called distributors won't copy it the first week and sell it under their table. A Q-pac dvd cost ($1,60 at the factory). A coke is 75 cents, a red bull is $2,25. U can still buy both and don't complain about the price difference, because they are different. Everybody with taste can see how bad is the quality picture of an African movie compared to the tremendous effort we are making in Haitian movies. We're improving and this is clear. But Haitian nou toujou ap achte figi pou moun ka di nou konnen! If you keep thinking that way, one thing is going to happen, the good haitian filmmakers will switch to the underground african american or spanish market to make a living where they can get some respect for what they do and continue their effort until they can make a good movie to crossover. You guys will have to count on Africans to make u a good haitian movie one day, just like our parents have to count on Dominicans to put an egg or a banana in their dinner plate in Haiti (nou pa wont menm!). You really turn me off with that stupid African movie Debate. You can just buy it, watch it home and shut your cultural broken mouth up! Haitian movies are so respected in Africa that Arnold Antonin is the President of Honor of they greater festival.
